Intersection 2022

An Intensive Chamber Music Workshop | Learning and Performing the Music of Our Time

Thank you for an absolutely wonderful experience!
— -INTERSECTION participant

Join us for a unique opportunity to enrich your chamber music skills and understanding. Receive coaching from experienced, consummate musicians in both contemporary and traditional classical music.

Collaborate with Bay Area composers and chamber musicians to explore and perform new compositions written especially for this program. This is our seventh year!

INTERSECTION is an innovative chamber music workshop designed by the musicians of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble for adult amateur musicians who are fascinated and delighted by the prospect of being part of the creation of new works while gaining new insights into the traditional classical repertoire. This intensive program will familiarize participants with the sometimes-intimidating techniques and practices of playing new music by accessible, living composers and offer a fresh look at familiar chamber music masterpieces.

The COACHED REHEARSALS

Each individual is assigned a chamber ensemble; each ensemble is assigned a traditional classical work along with a new work specifically composed for them by one of these Bay Area composers: Michael Kimbell, Karl Josef Schmidt, and Katrina Wreede, winners of our 2020 Intersection Composition contest. Left Coast Chamber Ensemble players and the composers work with each group in three 2 hour coaching sessions between Jan. 5 and Feb. 18, 2020 (scheduled by the participants). That will be followed by a weekend workshop and performance February 19 and 20, 2022.
